Background

Maysilee is known for her mean demeanor toward others in District Twelve; Haymitch calls her "the most stuck-up girl in town", and she even draws a physical assault from the District 12 escort, Drusilla Sickle. Her compassion shows in how she treats the other Newcomers, helping them with their district tokens. In the Games she saves Haymitch from a fight against three Career tributes using poisonous darts and the two team up.

Her rage at the Capitol culminates in her killing Gamemakers in the arena. As punishment she is killed by a flock of bright "candy-pink birds" whose razor-sharp beaks wound her fatally in the neck, and Haymitch stays with her until she dies. She finishes fourth. The mockingjay pin Madge gave Katniss belonged to Maysilee. Sunrise on the Reaping expands her story and reveals that the recording of Haymitch's Games that Katniss and Peeta viewed in Catching Fire was a heavily edited version created by the Capitol.
