Mockingjay
The bird that became the symbol of the rebellion.
The mockingjay becomes the symbol of defiance against the Capitol. Katniss wears a mockingjay pin into the arena, a gift from the District 12 mayor's daughter Madge Undersee, and in Catching Fire Cinna turns her wedding gown into a black feathered mockingjay dress. In Mockingjay, Katniss agrees to be the "Mockingjay", the rebellion's symbol, for District 13's propaganda. Suzanne Collins compares Katniss to the bird, since both "should never have existed".
