Background

In the past the Renans of Elde Menancia were as merciless as those of any realm, and Migal and Kisara depended on each other to survive. That changed seven years earlier when Dohalim was crowned lord, abolished slavery and let Dahnans enroll in the guard. Migal caught wind of Dahnans falling sick and being quarantined in the medical facility at Razrum Quarry, and discovered the Fruit of Helgan placed in their food, which hollowed them. The conspirators captured him, framed him as a traitor who had tried to assassinate the lord, force-fed him the raw fruit daily and left him for dead; he escaped and gathered others like him into the Gold Dust Cats.

His cat Zareh leads the party to his hideout, and he asks them to bring Dohalim so he can show him the truth: the supposed medical facility is a lake of Hollowing. When Dohalim questions him, Migal eats a Fruit of Helgan and lets himself hollow before the lord's eyes, begging Dohalim and Kisara with his final breath to stop the conspirators.
