Pain's Assault on Konoha

The Akatsuki's leader levels the Hidden Leaf, and Naruto answers him with Sage Mode and with words.

Pain's assault on Konoha is the attack of the Akatsuki's figurehead leader Nagato on the Hidden Leaf Village in Part II. After killing Jiraiya, Nagato invades Konoha with his Six Paths of Pain to keep the village from avenging his former teacher and to capture Naruto, the host of the Nine-Tails.

Lore & Background

Searching for Naruto, the Paths tear through the village; the Human Path kills Shizune, and the Deva Path, in frustration with Tsunade, wipes out the whole village with its gravity technique. Kakashi Hatake is among the dead. Tsunade spends all of her energy protecting the villagers.

Reader's Guide

Naruto arrives with his newly learned Sage Mode and defeats all Six Paths of Pain. Pinned down with iron rods, he loses control of Kurama's chakra when Hinata Hyuga is nearly killed protecting him, and inside the seal he meets the chakra imprint of his father Minato. He then finds the real Nagato and persuades him; Nagato uses the Rinne Rebirth to revive the people killed in the attack and dies from the strain. Naruto is hailed as a hero of the Leaf, the village begins to rebuild, and Tsunade falls into a coma, during which Danzo Shimura takes over as acting Hokage.
