Lore & Background
Kaguya Otsutsuki came to the world long before the shinobi nations existed. She ate the fruit of the God Tree and used her new power to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Her sons Hagoromo and Hamura fought her for months and sealed her inside Hagoromo's body. Her return is engineered by Black Zetsu, the being she created at the last moment, who manipulates Indra's descendants and finally Madara Uchiha. Once she is back, Black Zetsu tries to absorb the chakra of Naruto and Sasuke. Hagoromo's spirit intervenes in the war. He gives Naruto and Sasuke the power to defeat his mother. With it the two withstand her dimension-shifting attacks, and Team 7 seals her.
Reader's Guide
This arc serves as the narrative climax of the Fourth Great Ninja War, transitioning from human conflict to cosmic stakes. Black Zetsu betrays Madara Uchiha once the Infinite Tsukuyomi is cast and turns his body into a vessel for Kaguya. The battle shifts across multiple dimensions created by Kaguya's ability to travel space-time freely. Hagoromo's spirit has already given the two the power they need to face her. Obito Uchiha gives his life helping the team, and Madara, cast out of Kaguya as she is sealed, dies afterwards. Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura and Kakashi seal her together. It directly sets up the final battle between Naruto and Sasuke by establishing their unique bond as vessels of Hagoromo's power.
