During the late part of Hiruzen Sarutobi's reign as Hokage, Takigakure became a focal point for tension between Konoha and rogue elements. When Orochimaru abandoned his home village, he sought sanctuary within these waterfalls. The Third Hokage traveled there in an attempt to bring him back peacefully, but the mission failed, leading to Orochimaru's eventual betrayal and the invasion of Konoha. Despite this dark chapter, the village continues to function as a sovereign entity. Its leaders prioritize the preservation of their territory over expansionist ambitions, focusing instead on maintaining the delicate balance of power in the Land of Rivers.
