ANBU
Konohagakure's black ops, created under the Second Hokage.
The Anbu Black Ops are the covert branch of Konohagakure's ninja. The Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, is credited with creating them together with the Ninja Academy and the Police Force.
Lore & Background
Kakashi Hatake served in the Anbu, where he was senior to Yamato, who had left Danzo Shimura's Root to join under the name Tenzo. Itachi Uchiha spent two years as a member, during which he gave Konoha intelligence on his clan's planned coup d'état. Danzo kept Root as his own personal black ops to oversee the village's security in secret.
Reader's Guide
Yamato is introduced in Part II as an Anbu member who becomes the substitute captain of Team Kakashi. In Masashi Kishimoto's original concept Itachi was the leader of the Anbu, a Special Assassination and Tactical Squad of 70 members in four teams nicknamed the Itachi Squad.
