Kakashi's Training and the Two-Year Time Skip
Two and a half years apart, each member of Team 7 under one of the Sannin.
The time skip is the gap of two and a half years between Part I and Part II of Naruto. It follows Naruto's failure to bring Sasuke back from the Valley of the End: the two go their separate ways, and Naruto leaves the village with Jiraiya to prepare for his next meeting with Sasuke and with the Akatsuki.
Lore & Background
Each member of Team 7 spends those years with one of the Legendary Sannin. Naruto travels and trains with Jiraiya, Sakura Haruno becomes a medical ninja as the apprentice of Tsunade, the Fifth Hokage, and Sasuke trains under Orochimaru.
Reader's Guide
Part II opens with Naruto's return to the Leaf Village, where he starts to deal with the Akatsuki by helping to save Gaara. Team 7 re-forms as Team Kakashi, with Sai in Sasuke's place and Yamato as acting captain. At the end of the same period Sasuke absorbs Orochimaru's power before the Sannin can take his body.
