Tihar
A hand-pumped air gun that kills in silence.
The Tihar, spelled Tikhar in Metro: Last Light and Metro Exodus, is a semi-automatic, multi-stroke air gun built from scrap by Metro dwellers after the war of 2013; it is not a pre-war weapon. With the old laws gone and parts easy to find, air guns like it are a popular alternative to real firearms. The Tihar is extremely quiet and can silently drop enemies at surprising range. It holds fifteen 15 mm ball bearings in a tubular spring-fed magazine, propelled by a compressed-air cylinder in the stock that is pressurised with a hand pump under the handguard; a gauge on the right side shows how much power and range the next shot will have, and each shot bleeds off some air.
Over-pumping gives extra power, but the surplus air leaks away, something a Last Light modification can prevent, and the hiss of the leak does not alert enemies. In Metro 2033 the first Tihar can be picked up as early as the Lost Tunnel level.
