VSV (VSK-94)
A pre-war silenced rifle, the Rangers' quiet favourite.
The VSV, also known as the VSK-94 (Military Sniper Complex), is a pre-war fully automatic sniper and marksman rifle that saw limited use with Russian law-enforcement units before the nuclear war. Developed from the 9A-91 carbine, it was designed for subsonic 9x39 mm rounds (SP5, SP6 and PAB-9), with later versions chambered for 7.62x39, 5.56 NATO and 5.45x39; in the games it is a primary weapon that takes both dirty and military-grade 5.45x39 cartridges, and survivors prize it highly. In Metro 2033 the first VSV can be bought in the Armory, scoped or unscoped, and three unscoped ones are found free at the Black Station, one of them handed over by Ulman at the start of the level. Its low rate of fire and high damage suit ammunition conservation, while its 20-round magazine makes bursts advisable up close. It returns in Metro: Last Light with only small changes.
