Nahacky's angelfish, or *Centropyge nahackyi*, is a small pygmy angelfish that lives on steep, deep drop-offs near Johnston Island and Hawaii. Its vivid, bright colors make it extremely sought after in the aquarium trade.
This fish has a small mouth at the front of its head. Its jaw teeth are slender, long, broadly rounded, and packed closely together, giving it flexible jaw movement. It has no teeth on the roof of its mouth, and its tongue is short and rounded. The head profile resembles the "bispinosa" complex, with the area above the eyes becoming more concave as the fish grows. Its body is dark, with blue and brown coloring on the back of the tail. It also has black and blue bars on the nape, a yellow thorax, and a yellow tail base. Gentle, sloping patterns create consistent visual differences that set it apart from similar species.
Native to Johnston Atoll, *C. nahackyi* is mostly found on deep reefs of eroded limestone at depths of 41–70 meters. One specimen was discovered around the Hawaiian Islands, which may be a stray or waif occurrence. Its maximum abundance is 0.12 per square meter.
Because of its bright colors, this angelfish can sell for thousands of U.S. dollars in the aquarium trade.
