The channelled rockfish (Setarches guentheri), also called the deepwater scorpionfish, is a marine ray-finned fish in the subfamily Setarchinae of the family Scorpaenidae. It has the broadest distribution of any scorpaenid, occurring worldwide on continental shelves in tropical and warm temperate oceans.

English zoologist James Yate Johnson first described this species in 1862, based on a specimen from Madeira, and placed it in the new genus *Setarches*. Later, other species were added to the genus, but in 1966 William N. Eschmeyer and Bruce B. Collette synonymized most of them with *S. guentheri*, leaving only *S. guentheri* and *S. longimanus*. This was later revised to three species: *S. armata*, *S. guentheri*, and *S. longimanus*. A 2021 review by Wada, Kai, and Motomura resurrected the genus *Lythrichthys*, moving *S. cypho*, *S. longimanus*, and two newly described species into it. *S. armata* is now considered a synonym of the flathead *Thysanophrys armata*. This leaves the channelled rockfish as the only species in the now monotypic *Setarches*. As of January 2022, Catalog of Fishes accepts this change. Johnson did not explain the genus name *Setarches*, but it may come from *saeta* meaning "bristle"; the specific name honors Johnson’s friend, ichthyologist and herpetologist Albert Günther.

The body depth of the channelled rockfish is 28–37% of its standard length, with larger fish having proportionally shallower bodies. Its dorsal fin has 11–13 spines and 9–11 soft rays, while the anal fin has 3 spines and 4–6 soft rays. The lateral line is nearly continuous and forms a trough covered by thin, deciduous membranous scales. On the preoperculum, the second spine is longer and better developed than the first and third, which are similar in length. Living fish are pinkish red to orange with reddish black spots on the head and body. Smaller individuals are more reddish gray with black spots; the smallest fish, about 40 mm (1.6 in), have dark color concentrated in a patch above the pectoral fin and below the soft-rayed part of the dorsal fin, with less dark color on the caudal peduncle. Maximum total length is 31.4 cm (12.4 in).

In the eastern Atlantic it is found from Madeira south to South Africa; in the western Atlantic from off southern Rhode Island south to northern Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico; along the Pacific coasts of the Americas from southern British Columbia to Chile; and across the Pacific and Indian Ocean to the east coast of Africa. Despite this wide range, there is very little genetic difference between widely separated populations. It is a benthopelagic species with a depth range of 150 to 780 m over soft bottoms and water temperatures between 5.5 to 12.5 °C.

Its wide distribution with little genetic differentiation between populations suggests a remarkable capacity for dispersal across ocean basins.
