Junpei Yoshino is a bullied high school student whose death at the hands of the cursed spirit Mahito is Yuji Itadori's first great loss. Mahito kills him with Idle Transfiguration in front of Yuji.

Junpei sees Mahito transfigure his bullies in a movie theater and, instead of fleeing, follows the curse and asks to learn about cursed energy. Mahito awakens Junpei's Cursed Technique, a venomous jellyfish shikigami. Yuji, sent with Kento Nanami to investigate the theater deaths, bonds with Junpei over their love of films and has dinner with him and his mother Nagi. That night she is killed by a curse drawn to one of Sukuna's fingers, which Mahito had planted in their home.
Reader's Guide
Misled by Mahito, Junpei attacks his school to take revenge on a boy who bullied him. Yuji fights him and talks him into stopping. Mahito then appears and transfigures Junpei. Yuji begs Sukuna to heal his friend; Sukuna refuses and laughs along with Mahito. Junpei dies, and Yuji attacks Mahito in a rage, landing blows that hurt the curse's body and soul, before Nanami joins the fight.
