Final Fantasy Codexery

Ragnarok

The beast the l'Cie are meant to become, and Final Fantasy VIII's airship.

In Final Fantasy XIII, Ragnarok is the monster the newly crested l'Cie all see in a shared vision. Barthandelus tells the party that their Focus is to transform into the beast Ragnarok and slay the sleeping fal'Cie Orphan, who keeps Cocoon afloat above Pulse.

Lore & Background

Vanille and Fang reveal that they fought in the War of Transgression centuries earlier with the same Focus. After the party defeats Barthandelus, Orphan awakens, merges with him and compels Fang to complete her Focus as Ragnarok. At the end Vanille and Fang remain on Cocoon and transform into Ragnarok together to prevent a collision between Cocoon and Pulse.

In Final Fantasy VIII the Ragnarok is an airship; the scene aboard it in which 'Eyes on Me' plays was singled out by writer Kazushige Nojima as a key moment in Squall and Rinoa's relationship.
