Meteor

The spell Sephiroth casts with the Black Materia to wound the Planet.

Meteor is a recurring Final Fantasy spell name. In Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth reveals at a Cetra temple that he intends to use the Black Materia to cast Meteor, which would have a devastating impact on the Planet; he plans to absorb the Lifestream as it heals the wound and become a god-like being.

Lore & Background

Sephiroth summons Meteor and seals the Northern Crater as Cloud falls into the Lifestream. Shinra fails to destroy Meteor but defeats a Weapon and punctures the Crater. Aerith's prayer for Holy succeeds, but Sephiroth prevents it from having any effect; once he is defeated, Holy is summoned again and destroys Meteor with the Lifestream's help. The game's logo artwork was based on Meteor.

In Final Fantasy IV the sage Tellah searches for the forbidden spell Meteor to defeat Golbez. In Final Fantasy XIV, Garlean scientists working on Project Meteor weaponised the lesser moon Dalamud.
