Excalibur
A recurring weapon name taken from Arthurian legend.
Excalibur is one of the two most notable recurring weapon names in the Final Fantasy series, derived from the sword of King Arthur. The series follows a tradition of naming items and spells after mythology and legend; the other notable weapon is Masamune, named after the Japanese swordsmith.
Lore & Background
The same naming practice extends to spells such as Holy, Meteor and Ultima.
