The power of the stars

There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.

'The power of the stars' is the phrase at the heart of the prophecy that drives two Warriors arcs: 'There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the stars in their paws.' The prophecy is given to Firestar near the end of Firestar's Quest and concerns three cats of his bloodline, each born with a special power. Power of Three follows Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf as they grow up believing they are the Three, and Omen of the Stars reveals the third cat to be Dovewing.

Lore & Background

The Sight opens with the prophecy in a prologue set near the end of Firestar's Quest, where the old SkyClan cat Skywatcher passes it to Firestar. At the end of that book Jaypaw walks into Firestar's dream, hears the words and concludes that they mean him and his littermates, Firestar's grandchildren; he tells Lionpaw and Hollypaw at the end of Outcast. The powers differ from cat to cat. Jayfeather, born blind, can sense the feelings of other cats and enter their dreams, where he can see.

Lionblaze cannot be wounded in battle. Hollyleaf turns out to have no power at all. When Squirrelflight admits in Long Shadows that the three are not her kits, they doubt the prophecy, until Sunrise shows that their mother is Leafpool, Firestar's other daughter. In The Fourth Apprentice, Lionblaze recognizes the third cat in his apprentice Dovepaw, who can see, hear and smell things very far away. In The Last Hope a further prophecy adds a fourth cat, and Bluestar tells Jayfeather that it is Firestar himself.
