Gustaaf Deloor
Winner of the first two Vueltas, later a mechanic at Cape Canaveral.
Gustaaf Deloor (24 June 1913 - 28 January 2002) was a Belgian cyclist who won the first two editions of the Vuelta a España, in 1935 and 1936; his older brother Alfons finished second in 1936, a 22-stage race of 4,407 km that remains the slowest Vuelta ever. He raced professionally from 1932 until the Second World War ended his career in 1939. Serving at Fort Eben-Emael when the German army attacked on 10 May 1940, he was taken prisoner and worked in the kitchen of Stalag II-B. He came home to a plundered house, emigrated to the United States in 1949, worked as a mechanic in New York and Los Angeles and from 1956 at Cape Canaveral, where the Marquardt Corporation employed him on ramjet engine work.
