2002 Tour de France
Luxembourg to Paris by way of the Pyrenees, and a result later struck from the books.
The 2002 Tour de France was the 89th edition, held from 6 to 28 July, starting in Luxembourg and ending in Paris after a counter-clockwise circuit that took in the Pyrenees before the Alps. It has no overall winner: Lance Armstrong's original victory was annulled in August 2012 by the United States Anti-Doping Agency, which disqualified him from all results since 1998, with the UCI confirming the verdict. Armstrong, then the winner of the three previous Tours, started as favourite; the main opposition was expected from the ONCE riders Joseba Beloki, Igor González de Galdeano and Marcos Serrano and the Kelme pair Óscar Sevilla and Santiago Botero, with Tyler Hamilton, Levi Leipheimer, Christophe Moreau and Roberto Heras also rated. Jan Ullrich, injured, and Giro winner Gilberto Simoni were absent.
