Luxembourg's Tour winner by the verdict of a court, twice second on the road.

He is the younger brother of Fränk Schleck, a professional from 2003 to 2016; their father Johny rode the Tour and the Vuelta between 1965 and 1974 in the service of Jan Janssen and Luis Ocaña, and their grandfather Gustav raced in the 1930s.
