Tissaia de Vries is a pivotal figure in the Witcher saga, renowned as the mentor who fundamentally shaped Yennefer of Vengerberg. Before Yennefer became one of the most powerful mages on the continent, she was a hunchback struggling to survive. Tissaia intervened during her apprenticeship at Aretuza, fixing Yennefer's physical deformities and setting her on the path to sorcery.

Born on Beltane in 1173, Yennefer lived in Vengerberg, the capital city of Aedirn, before her transformation. She began as a hunchback, and had her deformities fixed by Tissaia de Vries while she was an apprentice. In the Netflix series, where she is played by MyAnna Buring, Tissaia de Vries is Yennefer's mentor and the Rectoress of Aretuza; in 1206 the hunchbacked Yennefer is sold to her by her father.
