History
In January 2007, Kuźnia Gier was chosen by CD Projekt Red Studio to create a card game promoting the video game The Witcher. Released in October 2007, it had English and Spanish editions. A second edition came out in 2010. Another card game by Kuźnia Gier, included with the collector's edition of the video game, was released at the same time.
Reception
Upon release, the game sold out despite mostly mixed reviews, leading to a second print run in 2010. By 2015 it had lost popularity and received poor reviews, unlike the video game it promoted. Reviewers from Świat Gier Planszowych, Rebel Times, and Gildia.pl each gave it 6/10; Nerdheim.pl gave 5/10. On BoardGameGeek in 2025, it had a rating of 5.7 from 295 ratings.
Most reviewers considered the game average. An exception was Michał Krzywicki, who found it recommendable, writing that players might not play it ten times a day but would return to it. Other reviewers said most players would become bored after a few plays once strategies were mastered, making the game predictable. Jacek Nowak noted an attractive theme but unexciting gameplay.
The Gildia.pl review suggested it might appeal more to Witcher fans than experienced board-game players, for whom it would be too simple and mechanically average. The gram.pl reviewer summarized that Kuźnia Gier created a very pretty piece of junk. The Nerdheim.pl reviewer criticized the squandering of the Witcher universe in a very average game, calling it a mediocre title good for a few plays, and stated the card game served only marketing purposes and to extract money from fans of Sapkowski's prose.
