Switch

A Nebuchadnezzar crew member in white, unplugged and killed by Cypher.

Switch (played by Belinda McClory) is a member of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar in The Matrix, a human freed by Morpheus. Unlike the mental projections of other crews, who usually wear dark clothes and nearly opaque sunglasses, Switch wears white clothes and yellow, translucent sunglasses.

Lore & Background

Switch and Apoc are portrayed as front-line soldiers inside the Matrix, acting as "point" and "rear guard" in the crew's escape from the Agents and police and providing covering fire as they make their way into the sewers. Her weapon of choice is a Browning Hi-Power pistol, and she pokes fun at Mouse, calling him "the digital pimp". When Cypher betrays the crew, he takes Tank's place in the Operator's chair and kills Switch and Apoc, who remain jacked in, by forcibly unplugging them from the Matrix.

Reader's Guide

In the original script, Switch was a woman in the Matrix and a man in the real world, but the idea was removed; the producers reportedly thought it would confuse the audience.
