The Keymaker is a fictional character portrayed by Korean-American actor Randall Duk Kim in the 2003 film The Matrix Reloaded. He is a computer program capable of creating shortcut commands, physically represented as keys, which allow other programs to gain quick access to various areas within the simulated reality. Dressed as an elderly, bespectacled Korean man in a button-down shirt, smock, and an apron hung with bunches of keys, he operates as an "Exile." These are programs whose usefulness has ended but who chose to hide rather than be deleted. His unique function is vital for navigating the Matrix's security, specifically serving as the bridge required by Neo to reach the Source.

The Keymaker exists as an "Exile," a program that opted to hide within the Matrix rather than face deletion after its original utility ceased. He is held captive by the Merovingian, a dangerous Exile who guards him tightly. His role becomes critical when the Oracle informs Neo that he needs the Keymaker's assistance to reach the Source, the machine mainframe. When Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity attempt to demand his release, they are initially rebuffed by the Merovingian. However, Persephone, the Merovingian's wife, betrays her husband and guides them to a small room where the Keymaker toils over a key-cutting machine, surrounded by thousands of previously made keys hanging in bunches on the walls.
