Link

The operator who kept the line open after Tank moved on.

Link (played by Harold Perrineau) serves as the pilot and Operator of the Nebuchadnezzar, replacing Tank and Dozer. He is married to Zee, the sister of Tank and Dozer. While his tenure begins after the events of the first film, he serves as the primary technical support for Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity during the escalating conflict in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. His presence ensures the crew maintains their connection to the simulation while navigating real-world dangers.

Lore & Background

Link's entry into the narrative is marked by a significant family connection within Zion's resistance. His wife Zee is superstitious, and at first he refuses to wear her fortune necklace. Dozer was killed during Cypher's betrayal in the first film, and Tank died after the events of The Matrix but before The Matrix Reloaded. Tank's duties as the ship's Operator were then handed over to Link. As an Operator, Link assumes the duties previously held by Tank: watching over jacked-in crewmembers and monitoring the ship itself for Sentinel attacks. He possesses the same skill set as a programmer capable of guiding crew members through dangerous events within the Matrix and providing them with necessary tools or weapons.

Reader's Guide

Link is essential for any mission requiring the Nebuchadnezzar to function. Operators like Link are skilled programmers who can provide jacked-in crewmembers almost anything they need and guide them to and from dangerous events within the Matrix. They also watch over the ship itself in case Sentinels detect its presence. By the end of The Matrix Revolutions, he wears Zee's fortune necklace as he personally detonates the Mjolnir's EMP, saving Zion, and later tells Zee he will never take it off; by the time of The Matrix Resurrections, sixty years later, he is dead.
