Gameplay
The objective is to fill a creature's mouth with oil. Levels increase in complexity, sometimes requiring feeding multiple creatures or a specific color or type of oil. Players use provided objects—such as solid bars, fans, oil filters, and tornados—to guide the oil. Fans push oil in the direction they blow. Special objects like buttons may activate pathways or lift obstacles. Using fewer objects and completing levels faster yields higher scores. Updates added level packs with new mechanics, including anti-gravity and oil-mixing.
Development and release
Development began in August 2010 after Alexander Ilin was inspired by the trailer for The Unfinished Swan. His primary goal was attention to every aspect of design, from physics to graphics to mechanics, and to create gameplay that worked on any mobile screen size. The game was built with Cocos2d. After release, Ilin hired five people to develop updates and founded Holy Water Games with them.
