Gameplay
The game follows a young girl called Baby, who has an upside-down face and carries a heart-shaped balloon. The art direction is inspired by Edward Gorey. Players guide Baby by holding her hand via the Vita touch screen. Popping other characters' balloons unlocks additional backdrops, up to three per level, which can be swapped using the rear touchpad. Puzzles often require quick shifts between backdrops to progress through a world of children's fantasies and fears.
Reception
Metacritic gave Murasaki Baby a score of 69 out of 100 based on 48 reviews. Hardcore Gamer rated it 4.5 out of 5, calling it a personal and engaging story with hypnotically original art design. Eurogamer rated it 8 out of 10, noting that touch controls sometimes work against it but the game walks the line between weird and wonderful. IGN rated it 7.5 out of 10, praising the animation and unique platforming but citing frustrating touch controls. GameSpot rated it 7 out of 10, describing the controlling as tiresome and hands covering the visuals, yet calling it an audio-visual treat. Game Informer rated it 6 out of 10, calling it a weird little game with a Hot Topic aesthetic and challenging in the wrong ways.
