Development and release

Following the success of Journey (2012), SIE's Foster City Studio product development group decided to work with small teams. They sponsored a game development program at Carnegie Mellon University, providing PlayStation Vitas for student experimentation. In July 2013, Foster City offered six students from Carnegie Mellon and three from San Jose State University, plus two industry veterans, forming the nine-person PixelOpus team. Entwined was released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita in June 2014.

Reception

Entwined received mixed reviews according to Metacritic. The Digital Fix gave it eight out of ten, calling it a beautiful blend of gameplay, visuals, and soundtrack. The Escapist gave three stars out of five, describing it as a middling arcade game not worth more than a shrug. National Post gave five out of ten, stating the game never delivers much beyond art and beauty.
