Development
The game was first announced in July 2015 through a fourteen-page article in Weekly Famitsu, as a collaboration between Spike Chunsoft and tri-Ace. Development involved much of the same tri-Ace staff that had worked on the first Valkyrie Profile game, with assistance from Spike Chunsoft staff. Character designer Mino Taro of Konami's Love Plus series and composer Motoi Sakuraba, known for tri-Ace's Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean series, contributed to the project. Originally scheduled for release on November 26, 2015, the game was delayed to December 17. After the Japanese release, Spike Chunsoft released downloadable content collaborations in March 2016 featuring costumes from Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean 5, and a Monokuma costume from Danganronpa. No information about an English release was announced until April 2016; NIS America gave a 'no comment' response when asked about localizing the title. Aksys Games later acquired the rights and released an English version in North America on October 18, 2016, and a digital-only release in Europe on September 8.
