Reception
The game received generally favorable reviews on both platforms according to Metacritic. Sports Illustrated rated the PS3 version nine out of ten, stating it is consistently successful due to options allowing players to choose their preferred brand of baseball at a manageable skill level. Toronto Sun gave it four-and-a-half stars out of five, noting it pulls no squeeze plays on quality and realism. The Digital Fix scored it eight out of ten, remarking that for those unfamiliar with baseball it is probably a curiosity, and as a PlayStation exclusive it occupies a limited niche, but for baseball fans there is nothing better on the market. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences nominated MLB 13: The Show for Sports Game of the Year at the 17th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.
