Kirigakure

The Hidden Mist Village, scarred by its Bloody Mist era.

Kirigakure, the Village Hidden in the Mist, lies in the Land of Water and is led by the Mizukage. It is known for the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, a group of ninja who fight with particularly large swords, among them Zabuza Momochi and Kisame Hoshigaki.

Lore & Background

Under the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura Karatachi, who was also the host of the Three-Tails, the village entered its Bloody Mist era, in which academy students had to fight each other to the death to graduate. Yagura was acting under a genjutsu cast by Obito Uchiha, which the ninja Ao eventually uncovered with his Byakugan. Zabuza Momochi fled the village after a failed attempt to assassinate Yagura.

Reader's Guide

Mei Terumi, the Fifth Mizukage, wields the Lava and Vapor Styles and has no fond memory of the earlier leadership, which hunted users of kekkei genkai like her. She attends the Kage Summit with her bodyguards Ao and Chojuro, the last Swordsman still serving the village. In the Boruto era the village still has to stop a coup by loyalists of the Blood Mist traditions.
