Amegakure

The war-torn Hidden Rain, where three orphans founded the Akatsuki.

Amegakure, the Village Hidden in Rain, is a war-torn land that has served as the battleground of the larger countries around it. It is the home of the orphans Nagato, Yahiko and Konan and the place where the Akatsuki was founded.

Lore & Background

During the Second Great Ninja War the village was ruled by Hanzo of the Salamander, the dictator who gave Jiraiya, Tsunade and Orochimaru the name "Legendary Sannin" after they survived a fight with him. Jiraiya stayed to train the three orphans, and Yahiko later formed the Akatsuki with Nagato and Konan to bring peace to the village.

Reader's Guide

After Yahiko's death, brought about through Hanzo and Danzo Shimura, Nagato took the name Pain, killed Hanzo and became the village's leader, revered by its people as a god, with Konan as "God's angel". By Part II the insular village is in a civil war with Pain leading one side, and Jiraiya sets out to investigate the Akatsuki leader's secret and dies fighting him.
