Nine Tailed Beasts
The nine chakra beasts born from the Ten-Tails.
The nine Tailed Beasts came into being when Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, divided the Ten-Tails' chakra into nine parts shortly before his death. They run from Shukaku, the One-Tail, to Kurama, the Nine-Tails and the most powerful of them.
Lore & Background
Between those two stand Matatabi (Two-Tails), Isobu (Three-Tails), Son Gokū (Four-Tails), Kokuō (Five-Tails), Saiken (Six-Tails), Chōmei (Seven-Tails) and Gyūki (Eight-Tails). A person with a beast sealed inside is a Jinchuriki: Gaara hosts Shukaku, Killer Bee hosts Gyūki and Naruto Uzumaki hosts Kurama.
Reader's Guide
The Akatsuki hunt the Jinchuriki to collect all nine beasts and feed them to the Gedo Statue, which would turn it back into the Ten-Tails. During the Fourth Great Ninja War Naruto resolves to save the captured beasts, and Kurama befriends him for it.
