During the Warring States Period, clans fought endlessly for survival until Hashirama and Madara met. Despite their families being arch-enemies, they recognized each other's strength and shared a desire to end the violence. After many failed attempts to defeat his rival, Madara accepted Hashirama's treaty of peace between the two clans, and the Uchiha, the Senju and their affiliated clans formed a village that Madara named Konohagakure. However, as the village grew, tensions rose regarding how power should be distributed.

Madara felt his clan was being marginalized while Hashirama believed in a meritocratic system under the Hokage. This mistrust boiled over into their final duel at the Valley of the End, where they nearly destroyed each other using their most powerful techniques. Madara was believed to have died by Hashirama's hand, but he survived and went into hiding. Their unfinished business haunted the village for decades, influencing the Uchiha's eventual rebellion and the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War.

This shared dream led to the establishment of Konohagakure, the Hidden Leaf Village. However, political disagreements and differing philosophies regarding power eventually drove them apart. The final confrontation at the Valley of the End symbolized this fracture in their friendship. Hashirama sought peace through unity under a single leader, while Madara believed true peace required absolute control over all minds.

The battle ended with Madara apparently dead at Hashirama's hand. This event established the precedent for future Hokage and the Uchiha's distrust of the village leadership. Statues of the two founders stand at the Valley of the End.
