Konoha Nine-Tails Attack

A village shattered by a beast, saved by two heroes who paid with their lives.

The Nine-Tails' attack on Konoha was triggered when a masked figure manipulated Kushina Uzumaki during childbirth, weakening the seal on the Nine-Tailed Fox. The beast was released and rampaged through the village. In response, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, sacrificed his life by splitting the fox in half and sealing the fox inside himself and in the body of his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki, respectively, making him a host of the beast. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, returned from retirement to become the leader of the Leaf again.

Lore & Background

The attack began when a masked figure manipulated Kushina Uzumaki during childbirth to release the Nine-Tailed Fox's seal. The beast's rampage tore through the village streets. Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, sacrificed his life by splitting the fox in half and sealing the fox inside himself and in the body of his newborn son, Naruto Uzumaki, respectively, making him a host of the beast. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, returned from retirement to become the leader of the Leaf again. Due to a decree by the Third Hokage forbidding any mention of these events, Naruto learns nothing about the Nine-Tails until 12 years later, when Mizuki, a renegade ninja, reveals the truth to him.

In Their Own Story

The sky above Konoha burned an unnatural crimson as the ground trembled under the weight of a single, massive paw. Screams were swallowed by the roar of wind and fire. In the center of the chaos, a man with a mask watched silently while two figures stood defiant against the god-like beast. As the fox's tail whipped toward the village, the Fourth Hokage flashed into existence, his eyes filled with determination rather than fear. He placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, then turned to the infant in her arms, whispering a promise that would echo through generations before vanishing in a flash of yellow light.

Reader's Guide

The attack irrevocably altered Konoha's trajectory. Peace following the Third Great Ninja War was shattered overnight, replaced by a security state built around protecting the new Jinchuriki. Hiruzen Sarutobi enacted strict secrecy regarding Naruto's identity to shield him from those who would weaponize his power. Though Minato and Kushina died as heroes, their son inherited their sacrifice alongside a village that feared the monster inside him. This decision ensured Konoha's survival but created a complex legacy: the boy destined to save them was raised in isolation, bound by the very tragedy that defined his birth.
