Rasengan

Pure rotation. Maximum devastation.

The Rasengan is a close-range attack: a spinning sphere of compressed chakra held in the palm. Conceived by the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and passed down through Jiraiya to his successor, the Seventh Hokage Naruto Uzumaki, this technique represents the zenith of shape transformation. By compressing a massive volume of energy into a rapidly rotating sphere within the palm, it creates a devastating impact force capable of tearing through almost any defense upon contact.

Lore & Background

Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, developed the technique over three years, and it remained incomplete: he was never able to combine it with his own chakra nature. Jiraiya taught it to Naruto Uzumaki while the two were travelling to find Tsunade. Naruto learned it in steps, beginning with popping a water-filled balloon in his palm by spinning the water with his chakra. In Part II, training with Kakashi, Naruto uses two shadow clones to stabilise the sphere and infuse it with wind-nature chakra, creating the Rasenshuriken.

Reader's Guide

The Rasengan is a sphere of chakra used for attack and is described as an extreme change in chakra form. The user spins chakra in the palm of the hand until it holds as a sphere. Training starts with a water-filled balloon that must be popped by spinning the water inside with chakra, the first of three steps.
