Background

Fashionable and good-looking, Ino was a popular girl at the academy. She was Sakura Haruno's childhood friend, helping Sakura find her own identity and standing up to her bullies, until both discovered they liked Sasuke Uchiha and the friendship broke. The two later make up, though they stay competitive with one another. In the anime, Sakura's progress in healing techniques spurs Ino to learn Medical Ninjutsu so she can be more useful to her friends.

In combat Ino specialises in mind-altering techniques. She can transfer her consciousness into a target's mind, gaining control of their body to attack others, spy or distract. She can also communicate telepathically by connecting the minds of people around her, and as a sensory ninja she detects chakra nearby. When her father dies it emerges that she was raised to embody the "Purple Buschlover" of the Yamanaka crest, a blunt, candid love that treasures bonds.

In the epilogue Ino has married Sai, with whom she has a son, Inojin; she heads her clan, leads the village's Sensory Unit and runs the family flower shop. Ryōka Yuzuki voices her in Japanese and Colleen O'Shaughnessey in English.
