Background
Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen created Rocket, who made his first appearance in Marvel Preview #7 in July 1976. His name and parts of his personality were drawn from the Beatles song "Rocky Raccoon" from 1968. He became a leading member of the Guardians of the Galaxy when that team was relaunched in 2008, and he has since turned up in cartoons, toys and games as part of the team. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe he is voiced by Bradley Cooper, starting with Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
