Background
Bill Everett created Namor for Funnies Inc. He first appeared in Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1, which was never circulated, and made his public debut in Marvel Comics #1 in October 1939, the first comic from Timely Comics. In that Golden Age era he was one of Timely's three top characters, with Captain America and the original Human Torch, and he has been called the first comic book antihero.
