Background
Rather than have the old cast reprise their roles, the new series features an entirely new cast voicing the characters. Atsushi Maekawa and Tsutomu Kamishiro handled series composition, Takahiro Yoshimatsu designed the characters and Yoshihisa Hirano wrote the music.
Crunchyroll streamed subtitled episodes an hour after each Japanese broadcast. Viz Media later licensed the show and released it with an English dub, and it ran on Adult Swim's Toonami block from April 2016.
The opening song is "Departure!" by Masatoshi Ono. Critics praised the series very widely, and its Chimera Ant arc is often named among the best story arcs in anime.
