When Gon finally meets Ging, his father reveals the purpose of his journey: to travel to the forbidden Dark Continent. Later Netero's son Beyond organises an expedition there, backed by the Kingdom of Kakin.

Aboard Kakin's ship, Kurapika serves as bodyguard to Prince Woble and seeks to reclaim the Kurta clan's stolen scarlet eyes from Prince Tserriednich while the Kakin princes fight their succession war. Chrollo regains his Nen and battles Hisoka, who, after being revived, begins assassinating Phantom Troupe members on the ship.
