Chimera Ant Arc

Gon and Killua join the Hunters' war against a Nen-using ant colony.

After leaving Greed Island, Gon and Killua use its artifacts to reach not Ging but Kite, his apprentice, who is researching a man-eating Chimera Ant queen in the Neo-Green Life (N.G.L.) region. The queen's offspring learn Nen by eating Hunters and overthrow the neighbouring Republic of East Gorteau.

Lore & Background

The Hunter Association, including its chairman Netero, mobilises an extermination team to infiltrate the East Gorteau palace and assassinate the Ant King, Meruem, who proves formidable. Meruem meanwhile becomes attached to Komugi, a blind Gungi champion he cannot beat, and begins to question his own violent rule.

Netero defeats Meruem with a suicide bomb. Gon, driven by vengeance for Kite's death, overexerts his Nen to kill the ant Neferpitou and is left critically injured. Meruem dies of the bomb's poison with Komugi at his side. After the crisis the Zodiacs, including Ging, seek a new chairman, and Gon finally meets his father.
