Lore & Background
In the first film Stoick sails to find and destroy the dragons' nest and enrols Hiccup in dragon-fighting class before he leaves. When Toothless is captured at Hiccup's final exam, Stoick disowns his son and uses the dragon to guide his fleet to the nest; when the Red Death overwhelms the Vikings, he realises his mistake, rescues Hiccup and Toothless and tells Hiccup he is proud of him. In How to Train Your Dragon 2 he presses Hiccup to become chieftain, recalls surviving Drago's attack at a gathering of chiefs, and is reunited with Valka; he dies taking the blast that the hypnotised Toothless fires at Hiccup, and Berk gives him a Viking funeral. In the television series his first dragon is the Thunderdrum Thornado, whom he releases, and his second is the Rumblehorn Skullcrusher.
