The human devil hunter who climbed the Temen-ni-gru to stop her own father.

Lady is a human devil hunter in Capcom's Devil May Cry series, born Mary. She was introduced in Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening (2005), where she is hunting her father, Arkham, to avenge his murder of her mother, and she later became a playable character in Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition.

Background

Arkham carried the blood of the priestess whom Sparda had used to seal the Temen-ni-gru. When he became obsessed with gaining Sparda's power and killed his wife, Kalina Ann, his daughter rejected him and gave up her name. She climbs the tower after him with her rocket launcher Kalina Ann, which bears her mother's name, clashes with Dante several times, and gets her new name when Dante, told she has none, dismisses her with 'Whatever, Lady'. The story's theme of a family torn apart mirrors Dante's own fight with Vergil.

In Devil May Cry 4 she is the one who sends Dante and Trish to Fortuna to look into the Order of the Sword. In Devil May Cry 5 she joins Dante and Trish against Urizen, is defeated and captured, and is held inside the demon Artemis until Nero frees her; Nico, who had serviced her weapons before, recognises her at once.

Writer Bingo Morihashi created her with two other designers, who based her look on Russian singer Julia Volkova, gave her black hair and real fighting skill to set her apart from the series' earlier heroines, and redesigned her as a businesswoman for Devil May Cry 4. Kari Wahlgren and Kate Higgins are among her English voices; Fumiko Orikasa voices her in Japanese.
