Qliphoth

The demon tree whose fruit crowns a king of the Underworld.

The Qliphoth is the giant demonic tree at the center of Devil May Cry 5. Urizen plants it in Red Grave City, where it kills people for their blood; according to V it grows in the Underworld and, once nourished, bears a fruit of condensed human blood that makes whoever eats it the king of the Underworld, something that happens only once every few thousand years. Sparda's seal kept it from reaching the human world for two millennia. Urizen eats its fruit and is defeated by Dante, and Dante and Vergil finally cut the tree down from the Underworld before it can merge the Demon World with the human one.

Background

As a tree of the Underworld, the Qliphoth grows upside down: its branches lie deep underground while its thorny roots push to the surface and into the sky, tearing Red Grave City apart. Those it drains are left as lifeless husks. It lives in symbiosis with the ant-like Empusa demons that gather blood for it and hosts the parasitic Nidhogg. Qliphoth Roots are the first boss of the game, and Qliphoth Saplings appear as enemies throughout the story and in the Bloody Palace.
