The Otley Run is a pub crawl in Leeds that follows a route through the suburbs of Far Headingley, Headingley and Hyde Park before leading into Leeds City Centre. Most participants are aged 18 to 20, with many university students viewing the crawl as a rite of passage. The attack took place at 2:47 p.m. on 26 April 2025 on Otley Road in Headingley. The 19-year-old victim was in critical condition and underwent life-saving surgery, being discharged on 30 April. The 31-year-old woman was also injured. The perpetrator, Owen Lawrence, shot himself in the head with an air gun and was arrested at the scene; he died in hospital on 28 April. Police stated he acted alone. Counter Terrorism Policing later confirmed no other suspects were involved.

Lawrence's Facebook account, investigated after the attack, contained a manifesto detailing his plans for the 'Otley Run Massacre' and expressed misanthropic and misogynistic views, as well as admiration for several mass shooters including Brenton Tarrant, Anders Breivik, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Friends and neighbours expressed shock, stating he never expressed far-right beliefs, though they noted he had a history of drug addiction, a previous weapons collection, and had stalked his former fiancée.
