The Moonstone
A great piece of quartz in the dark of an old mine, where the forest Clans met their ancestors.
The Moonstone is the sacred site of the forest Clans in the first Warriors arc: a large piece of quartz deep inside Mothermouth, an abandoned mine in the mountain off the Clans' territory. Medicine cats travel to it every half-moon to communicate with StarClan, and a new leader receives nine lives there. When the Clans leave the forest they lose the Moonstone, and the Moonpool by the lake takes its place.
Lore & Background
In Into the Wild, Bluestar takes Tigerclaw and the apprentices Firepaw, Graypaw and Ravenpaw on the journey to the Moonstone. In Rising Storm she sets out for Mothermouth with Fireheart to speak with StarClan, but a WindClan patrol under Mudclaw turns them back, and she comes to fear that StarClan itself sent WindClan to stop her. In The Darkest Hour, Firestar receives his nine lives at the Moonstone, together with the prophecy that four will become two, lion and tiger will meet in battle, and blood will rule the forest. In Starlight, with the Clans newly arrived at the lake, the medicine cats worry that WindClan's new leader has no Moonstone for his ceremony, until Leafpaw is led to the pool that replaces it.
