The Dragon Reborn is the prophesied reincarnation of the Dragon, Lews Therin Telamon, the hero of the Age of Legends whose madness led to the Breaking of the World. He is foretold either to save the world from the Dark One or to break it a second time, and the servants of the Dark One seek to seduce him to the Shadow or destroy him.
Lore & Background
In The Eye of the World Moiraine Damodred believes one of three young men from Emond's Field is the Dragon Reborn; in The Great Hunt the Amyrlin Seat Siuan Sanche identifies Rand al'Thor; and in The Dragon Reborn Rand proves it by claiming Callandor in the Stone of Tear. The Aiel know him as the Car'a'carn, the prophesied Chief of Chiefs. The false Dragon Logain Ablar also claimed the title before the Aes Sedai gentled him.
