The Choedan Kal are two giant sa'angreal, one male and one female, the most powerful amplifiers of the One Power in the series. In The Shadow Rising the Forsaken Asmodean tries to seize control of one of them before Rand al'Thor, warned by Lanfear, stops him.

In Winter's Heart Rand and Nynaeve al'Meara use the Choedan Kal at Shadar Logoth to cleanse saidin of the Dark One's taint, destroying the city, the access key to the female Choedan Kal and the female sa'angreal itself. In The Gathering Storm Rand uses the remaining one to erase Graendal's palace with balefire and, on Dragonmount, draws enough power through it to destroy the world before the voice of Lews Therin turns him back.
