Aiel
Fierce warrior people of the Three-fold Land, awaiting their Car'a'carn.
The Aiel are a fierce warrior race who live in the Three-fold Land, called the Aiel Waste by outsiders, an inhospitable desert between the Westlands and Shara, cut off from the Westlands by the Spine of the World. They are tall, with pale eyes and red or blond hair. There are twelve Aiel clans, plus the extinct Jenn Aiel, who built the city of Rhuidean, a repository of Aiel history and culture.
Lore & Background
The Maidens of the Spear are an all-female Aiel warrior society. Aiel women who can channel or walk Tel'aran'rhiod, the World of Dreams, do not join the Aes Sedai but become Wise Ones. The Aiel await a prophesied Chief of Chiefs, the Car'a'carn, who will unite and rule all the clans; Rand al'Thor, son of the Maiden Shaiel and the Taardad chief Janduin, is recognised as the Car'a'carn in The Shadow Rising, and in The Fires of Heaven he leads the clans that follow him against the Shaido under Couladin at Cairhien.
